O&O Autobackup – the simple solution for backing up your data on a USB stick

O&O GmbH brings a useful tool for backing up your precious data on an external backup device (USB stick, external USB hard disk, FireWire volume).

Featuring a single window interface, O&O Autobackup is easy to use. Just connect your desired backup device to your PC, choose the targeted folder for backup and the destination device. There are three actions that can be performed: copy the entire content of the folder, copy only the modified and the new files, or full synchronization including deletion.

In case, the default actions cannot fulfill your needs, you can choose to edit your own criteria, based on which, new actions will be performed. The copy process will start automatically whenever you connect your USB/Firewire disk to the computer. Using the status bar icon and the status window in the program, you can see when the process is complete and simply remove the external drive at the end.

With O&O AutoBackup you can backup your files and directories quickly and automatically. But if you want to backup your entire computer, then is recommended to use a proper application, a comprehensive backup & recovery solution such as O&O DiskImage.

Until February, O&O Autobackup will be offered for free. All you need is to download it and request a free license code, which will be send to you by email.

CyberLink PowerDirector 10

Based on a huge community, PowerDirector has been recognized the most popular video editing tool, and therefore has evolved from version to version in terms of functionality and performance. PowerDirector 10 confirms again to be the fastest video editing tool. This is the result of a revamped rendering engine that provides even faster and more efficient video production. The engine takes advantage of both hardware and software technologies to speed up video processing, harnessing system GPU power via OpenCL for incomparable effects rendering speed, while a brand new H.264 media encoder rapidly processes HD video. In addition PowerDirector 10 is the world’s first native 64-bit consumer video editor, enabling improved system efficiency and faster loading of HD video footage through parallel processing optimization.

Defraggler

One of my favorite third party defragger and also the fastest out there is Defraggler – a tool developed by Piriform – the company behind both CCleaner and Recuva. Defraggler allows to defragment and optimize your local drives or a single file, several files or an entire folder. Defraggler is also very simply to use. If you would like to analyze your drive to determine how fragmented is prior to defragmentation, just use the Analyze button. Once the analysis will finish, it will show you the visual drive map along with the fragmented files.

O&O SpeedCheck

O&O SpeedCheck is a free portable utility that simulates the effects of a defragmentation on your computer. It will simulate a fragmented and defragmented state on your system. This means that the program will simulate reading files that are fragmented and then re-reads them as they were defragmented. No data is written in the simulation and no real files are used for reading. O&O SpeedCheck is a simple and useful tool that might save you time in understanding the need of your system for defragmentation. But it also promotes O&O Defrag by pointing you to its download site after finishing the simulation. Good thing is that you don’t have to choose this program. Just ignore the message and carry on with your work.

O&O SpeedCheck

Defragmentation is a necessary operation for any stable system. But its result may vary from system to system depending on each configuration. You can get a long process duration and it may not be distinguishable. So instead of doing it anyway and losing time, you may want to check if your system really needs such an operation and what are the results in case you may want to apply such an operation.

Files are read continuously one after the other on a hard disk level from the start of partition C:. The whole process takes around 8-10 minutes depending on your harddrive capacity. At the end of the simulation you will be shown a comparison of the two test times, and the possible increase in speed available to you. In this way you will get the picture how your PC can gain speed if you will defrag your system.

Both test runs are carried out five times, in order to eliminate any side effects caused by the applications that run in the background. Anyway, you should still close all the applications that run in background in order to get a precise result. File operations in particular can lead to a distortion of the result.
