Create iOS games without having to understand Flash or use coding

Stencyl is a new piece of software that is perfect for the budding game designer who has not yet learned coding but has the ideas and wants to start producing their own games.

Stencyl allows the amateur to create games without having to understand Flash or use coding. As a result of this target market it is relatively simple enough to follow the tutorial and get started. That said it is not necessarily easy to master without a basic knowledge or at least aptitude for programming. It is probably most likely to suit hobby enthusiasts or young potential coders and programmers.

Once you have got to grips with the software the potential for what types of games you can devise is only as limited as your imagination, I found that I was able to produce a solid few games that were enjoyable to play, even when repeated. The software has enough to it to execute a good idea. That said it might seem limited or frustrating to those who are familiar with coding and programming already.

As a free piece of software this is a great first step in to game design, and probably as a stepping stone to bigger and better things. For someone young with some technical knowledge and a budding game idea this could be the start of a career or serious hobby in game design.

Putting video where you want it and where you need it isn’t always as easy as you think it should be. With the adoption of this ecosystem or that ecosystem users often make investments that allow their toys to work and play well with each other. However, when you mix and match, it isn’t always easy. That’s why I like tools like GOM Video Converter. It’s a video conversion tool for Windows.

GOM Video Converter is a powerful, all-purpose video conversion app. It supports a wide variety of input and output formats. Generally speaking, if GOM Media Player can play it, GOM Video Converter can convert it. Whether you want to download videos from YouTube and put them on your iPod or upload a video from your 3G mobile phone to your blog, GOM Video Converter is the easy all-in-one solution for you.

The app has an intuitive user-interface; and built in conversion presets make GOM Video Converter easy for anyone to use. GOM Video Converter boasts faster conversion speeds than most other video converters. 3D Animations? No problem!

Have you ever tried to write a text, your name or your company’s name, or something else in 3D and to get it to spin and to whatever you want? I’ve searched the internet over and over to find a 3D text generator, and found many websites that do that, but none of them would really rise at my expectations, until I found Swift 3D.

This application it the most easy to use 3D modeling software I’ve ever seen! I have never worked in a 3D Modeling software, and I started to make 3D texts and shapes and anything I wanted right away! Swift 3D creates the 3D models for Adobe Flash, but you can export the files in many other formats ( gif, jpg, bmp, avi, swf, flv, tga 3DS). In the software gallery you already have many objects and materials to fill your creations, so, if you want to let your imagination fly, try it out and build anything you want! Set the lights, angles, and make your dream room or any scene you want!

Most of the objects that you will work with in this program are the primitives to be found along the toolbar at the top. These consists in a variety of shapes such as cubes, spheres and pyramids etc. These are the basic building blocks of most 3D objects, and are able to be re-shaped to make the exact shape you are trying to achieve. If you have learned drawing you will know that circles, squares and triangles are the basic blocks of most illustrations. These elements are the main objects in Swift 3D.

I really have to mention that the tricky part is the animation of the objects. But I’m sure that after you watch some tutorials you can animate whatever you want!

Once you figure out how to work with the animation feature, you can make every object to move as you like, when you like! And of course, if you use the 3D model for flash you can export it and in flash to make it open the door when you click it, etc.

Eggrr a handy RSS tool

Sometimes you don’t want or need to read an entire article. Sometimes you just want to quickly skim the headlines. Sometimes, getting the internet to work for you can be difficult.  This is why I like Eggrr. It’s an easy to use RSS tool for Windows.

One of the nicest things about the internet is that it has a lot of information on it.  You can find subject matter on just about everything that interests you.  News, technology, video, audio…it’s all there, waiting for you to sort through it.  Eggrr is an RSS (really simple syndication) aggregator. It gather’s content in specific categories and presents summaries to you. If you want more, you can surf to the article from within the application.  Eggrr can even pull down audio and video content, like podcasts, for you to listen to after they’ve been posted.

The application is easy to use, but we bumped into a couple of issues with it while installing and trying to use it. The application requires that you install Flash. Unfortunately, it wanted to install an outdated version of Flash.  It also requires a great deal of MS middleware (like .NET Framework) and the download and install of those components took nearly three times as long to pull down and install than the application did.

The app’s website also has very little information on the application itself. Finding out what it did and any other product or marketing information on it wasn’t really possible.  The best way to learn about it is to install it and give it a go; but not everyone wants to learn about products that way.

Install CyanogenMod 7 on rooted Samsung Galaxy S – the easy way

Are you a Samsung Galaxy S owner looking for some oh-so-cool Android 2.3.4 ROM? Good, you’re in the right place. Just in case you’re quite unsure if you should do it, let me tell you a few reasons of why you should install custom ROMs, especially CyanogenMod 7. In my opinion, CM7 is hands down the fastest and most functional ROM I have ever flashed on my SGS, plus it has many great standout features and customization options which makes it so much better than the stock ROM. About the visual elements, features and performance, you should take a look at the video below…

Convinced? Let’s proceed. The most preferred and the simplest way to install CyanogenMod on your device is via an app called ROM Manager which you can download from the Android Market. Go ahead, download the app and run it.

Note: ROM Manager requires a rooted device.

From ROM Manager, choose the first option: Flash ClockworkMod Recovery to update the app to the latest version. Select Galaxy S (MTD) > select Yes > select ClockworkMod 2.x > select OK. After this, select the Download ROM option from the main menu > select the CyanogenMod option, and then choose the latest version of CyanogenMod from the menu.

Note: When you select the latest version of CyanogenMod, check the Google Apps option. You’re going to need this in order to have the Android Market and some other Google apps which doesen’t come preinstalled in CyanogenMod.

Once the ROM is finished downloading, it asks if you would like to Backup Existing ROM and Wipe Data and Cache – I highly recomment you to do so – just to be on the safe side in case something goes wrong. If Superuser prompts for root permissions check to Remember and then Allow. The Samsung Galaxy S will now reboot into the recovery, wipe data and cache, and then install CyanogenMod. When it’s finished installing it will reboot into CyanogenMod and you’re done! You’ve successfully instaled Cyanogen Mod.

Note: If something goes wrong and your phone doesn’t work anymore as it should, do this: power off your device completely (remove battery if there is no other way). Press and hold Volume Up + Home Key and while you continue holding those buttons, press and hold power. Your phone should boot into recovery mod. From there, just select the recovery option and select the backp which you just made.
