Amazon Cloud Drive

amazon_cloud_drive_1223946_g1Access your data from anywhere with one of the most trusted names on the internet today with this must have cross platform tool.

Storing your data in the cloud is really in right now. Accessing your documents from anywhere, on any computing device, is the future of modern computing. Its for this reason alone that I really like Amazon Cloud Drive.  With it, you can do just that – get your data where you need it, when you need it from any supported, connected device, with just about any operating system.  This multiplatform, universal tool should be on your list of must have apps.

Amazon Web Services is one of the most trusted names in cloud storage. It powers Amazon Prime’s video on demand service and Amazon’s Cloud Player, and now can power your universal storage needs, too.  Cloud Drive securely stores your photos, videos, documents and other digital files. Though its Cloud Player and Cloud Drive are now thankfully separate services, you can still upload music to Cloud Drive for storage and backup.  However, if you want to play it from anywhere, you will also need to import it into Cloud Player.

To get started, all you have to do is install Cloud Drive on your computer.  Then move files to your Cloud Drive folder. The app will copy the data to your Amazon Web Service powered Cloud Drive.  From there, you can access your files via a web browser, or on any other computer you install Cloud Drive on.  The app will sync files to and from every instance of a compatible device where you have the software installed and your account connected to it. If you make changes to your files, Cloud Drive copies the files up to your account and then down to every device the software is installed on.

Like Dropbox, Google Drive or other service Amazon Cloud drive makes your files accessible from just about anywhere on just about any device with either the software installed or through a web browser. With 5GB of free storage to start you off, and reasonable prices for additional storage, it’s easy to get started with one of the most trusted vendors on the internet today.

Backup a partition or a disk with ease using AOMEI Data Backuper

Keep your data safe with this important Windows utility.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten burned because I lost a critical file. The number one reason why it happened is because I didn’t have a backup copy stashed somewhere. Having a formal, real back up of your data is important. This is one of the reasons why I decided to give AOMEI Data Backuper a try. It’s a backup utility for Windows PC’s.

AOMEI Data Backuper is a simple Windows tool for creating backup images of individual partitions or entire hard drives. Data Backuper has a clear and simple interface which feels familiar to anyone who’s ever used backup tool before. Its functions are organized across a number of tabs, and the program works as expected.

AOMEI Data BackuperIt also has the extra tools you’d expect. The app includes an option to mount a disc image as a virtual drive. You can then restore an image directly from the program, or create a bootable rescue disc.

Aoemei Data Backuper has a simple, and easy to use interface. The app does exactly what you would expect it to do, without cluttering up its workspace with a bunch of junk. This is a no-nonsense app, so don’t go looking for too much in terms of sophistication. However, if you need to back your data up and keep it safe, AOMEI Data Backuper is a great choice and one that you’ll be glad you have if you bump into problems.

Create and manage virtual machines with Paragon’s Virtualization Manager 12 Professional

Virtual machines are becoming quite the hot computing topic.  In many cases, they are becoming the way to go for OS testing, specialty software installs, demos and other evaluations.  This is one of the reasons why I like Virtualization Manager Professional. It’s a VM tool for Windows.

Creating bootable images of a supported guest operating system is easy with their native tools. Moving and managing them in combination with each other, isn’t always easy. Managing the combination of more than one guest OS on a host OS, isn’t always easy either.

Virtualization Manager Professional has full OS support for any Windows version from XP forward, including all server edtions.  With it, you can migrate an OS from a physical drive, to a virtual one, or convert a backup image to a bootable virtual drive.  You can also migrate full, bootable operating systems from virtual to physical, virtual to virtual as well as physical to physical.

If you need to make potentially volatile changes to a virtual machine, say for example, to install a difficult to remove application, and don’t want to worry about dealing with program artifacts that may get left behind in your registry or on your hard drive, you can use VMP’s snapshot mode to connect a virtual disk as if it’s an ordinary physical disk and open up all physical-disk functionality in a virtual environment. You can use a read only mode or a special read/write mode that creates a snapshot and applies all changes after the snapshot to test the application without destroying your virtual source drive.

VMP supports virtual machines from Oracle VirtualBox 4, Microsoft Virtual PC, VMware Workstation, VMware Fusion and Parallels Desktop but Parallels supports Connect VD only.

Speed up your optical disk drive access with today’s cool utility

Optical drives take a great deal of space in a portable computer. In many cases, they not only take up a lot of space, but compared to other spinning media, the access can be slow. Thankfully, there’s Daemon Tools Lite to help remedy this issue.

With storage media as cheap as it is having a utility to emulate a CD/DVD ROM drive can make a lot of sense.  With Daemon Tools, you do two very important tasks – emulate a CD/DVD ROM drive and create a disk image.

Seagate releases 3TB Hard Disk that is Windows XP-friendly

Seagate has announced that its 3.5-inch, 3TB desktop hard disk drive Barracuda XT is now available for shipping. A 3TB HDD eliminates the need to purchase additional hardware or software to overcome the 2.1TB drive barrier seen in other hard drives.

The company has also said it was able to make the drive’s capacity available to PC systems with its free DiscWizard utility software, as well as an added virtual device driver. This allows legacy BIOSes and OSes like Windows XP to access capacity beyond 2.1TB on a drive. The DiscWizard can be downloaded for free on Seagate’s website.

This high-performance hard drive delivers the highest available capacity on a single drive for home computers and work stations, enabling users to perform demanding tasks such as high-definition video editing and PC gaming.

The 2.1TB drive barrier was set about 30 years ago to limit the logical block address (LBA) range on a hard drive. The LBA specifies where blocks of data are stored on a hard drive. This makes legacy BIOSes and operating systems like Windows XP unable to use hard drive capacities beyond 2.1TB.

The Barracuda XT can be installed in PCs just like any other hard drive, using Windows to format and partition the drive. A PC that runs on Windows XP can only access 900GB of the drive–the portion above 2.1TB–while computers powered by Windows Vista and Windows 7 will recognize the 2.1TB capacity. Users will then have to download and install DiscWizard.

After installation of the DiscWizard, the user interface would display two partitions: one with 2.1TB and the other with 900GB capacity.

The Barracuda XT features five disk platters, a 7200rpm spindle speed, a 63MB cache, and a SATA 3.0 interface for a 6Gb/sec throughput. It is now available in Seagate’s retail points, costing US$274.
