Ok, we’ve all met the annoying pop-up dialog of Windows Update telling us to reboot the computer. When? Well, you guessed, when we are most busy, of course!
At the beginning, you can easily close the reminder but after some time he gets tired of reminding us and says that the computer will reboot in a couple of minutes! Well, personally, I prefer to temporarily disable the obnoxious reminder and restart when I’m ready to do so, not forced by the OS!
How we do that? Simple open the Command Prompt (if you have Windows XP: Start > Run > cmd ; if you have Windows Seven or Vista: type ‘cmd’ in your Start > ‘Search programs and files’). Then, type the following command: sc stop wuauserv
This will temporarily disable Windows updates and you can restart the computer when you’re ready to do so. After the restart, you’ll keep getting Windows updates as you did before entering the command so, no worries.
