GIGABYTE Announces 3TB+ Unlock Utility

Gigabyte 3tb unlock utility

Gigabyte announced the availability of the 3TB+ Unlock Utility that allows GIGABYTE motherboards without Hybrid EFI Technology to recognize and use unallocated space on new 3TB and larger hard disc drives (HDDs). The utility is freely available from the utilities page of the official GIGABYTE website.

GIGABYTE 3TB+ Unlock optimizes HDD storage space by allowing the user to create a virtual drive with space that exceeds 2048GB, the maximum amount of storage recognized by 32bit versions of operating systems such as Windows XP. The virtual drives are limited to 2048GB, and the user can create up to 128 partitions, as long as there is additional unallocated space on the HDD. 3TB+ Unlock supports both GPT (GUID Partition Table) and MBR (Master Boot Record) partition styles, however with MBR the number of partitions are limited to 8.

3TB+ Unlock currently supports new high-end motherboard models based on the Intel® X58, Intel® 6 series and AMD 8 series chipsets, and is in the process of being ported to older chipset models so that it will support all motherboards that are currently shipping.

Seagate announced its latest enterprise solutions designed to deliver storage for the widest range of application environments. Joining the industry’s most award-winning enterprise lineup, these solutions include: two new members of the Pulsar® Solid State Drive (SSD) family that deliver the ultimate enterprise performance, endurance and reliability; two next-generation Savvio® 15K and 10K hard disk drives (HDD) optimized for a balance of high performance and capacity; and the latest Constellation® ES.2 3TB HDD for pure capacity-optimized mass storage needs.

Pulsar.2 and Pulsar XT.2 – Pure Performance with Enterprise-Class Endurance

The Pulsar.2 SSD is the first MLC-enabled, (up to 800GB) SSD from an enterprise HDD vendor delivering the price/performance, data integrity, and endurance needed for performance-hungry enterprise applications. Unlike other MLC SSDs that have been designed for consumer applications and lack the robust data integrity and endurance feature set required for enterprise applications, the Pulsar.2 SSD has been designed from the ground up for the enterprise. It has the intelligence to automatically detect and correct a multitude of data errors than can occur during normal drive operations to deliver the highest levels of enterprise-class data integrity and endurance. By enabling MLC NAND technology for the enterprise, this drive addresses the market concerns on SSD cost and endurance and will enable adoption of SSDs in the enterprise. The Pulsar.2 supports both native 6Gb/s SAS and SATA 6Gb/s interfaces. (More on Pulsar XT. -2 here)

Apple iPad 2 is now delayed four to five weeks on its online store

iPad 2

iPad 2

Customers who order an iPad 2 via Apple’s online store will need to wait between four to five weeks for their tablet to arrive.

While Apple has not yet released official sales figures for the iPad 2’s first weekend of release, a selected number of analysts feel the company will sell between 500,000 and 600,000 of the next-generation tablets. In a March 8 research note, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster predicted that the tablet will sell 1 million units faster than its first-generation predecessor, which took 28 days to reach that mark. Part of the reason for the quicker sales, he argued, is the iPad’s availability at a broader collection of retail stores.

On March 14, the iPad 2’s first day of wide release, eWEEK toured around three Apple stores in Manhattan and found similarly long lines at each. Across the country, Apple’s retail partners—including Best Buy, Walmart, Target, AT&T and Verizon—reported shortages and outright sellouts of the tablet.

Heading midway into its first week of release, Apple repeatedly pushed back the expected shipping date for online iPad 2 sales, from 2 to 3 weeks to nearly twice as long. Whether by intention or genuine inability to deal with a flood of orders, other Apple products have endured similar delays and pushbacks in launches past. Apple’s iPhone 4, for example, led to a meltdown of both Apple’s and AT&T’s ordering systems on the first day of presales, followed by the pushback of the preorder shipment date.
