| | Change Folder Icons allows you to do right what its name says. If you want to have custom icons for any of your folders, the application can change them for you. It works by creating a special "Desktop.ini" file that contains a link to the new icon. This is a system file which is recognized by all versions of Windows that are newer than Windows 95.
Windows XP supports changing the default folder icon by default. You just need to go to the View menu in Windows Explorer and choose to "Customize this folder". Change Folder Icons offers this functionality as well as an icon search feature. You can search through your computer for icons and then associate them to a folder.
The icon search can be stopped or paused whenever you want to. The results of the search are displayed in real-time on a special panel. Unfortunately, scrolling through the icons was a bit misleading for me, due to the fact that all the icons are displayed as 32x32 pixel thumbnails. There's no way of changing the display mode (into a list for example).
Pluses: By accessing the "All changed icons" entry in the "Folder" main menu, you can view all the icons that you previously had changed.
Drawbacks / flaws:
In conclusion: Change Folder Icons is quite easy to use, so in my opinion it's worth a try if you want to change the appearance of your folders.
