Tetris one of the best and original games gave birth to a lot of clones in the last 20 years. One of these is also 3D Blocks 2006. But at least is a good one. It's a 3D version of the old Tetris with a very intelligent control.
This is not the first attempt of a 3D Tetris, but this is a good one. It has two views which helps you take the right decision:
- the main one is a bird eye view of the board game; - the second one which is very important is an isometric one to help you see in depth the board game;
Not only the board is 3D but also the blocks, so you have to rotate them around the x, y, z axes. This makes the game more difficult but the second view helps you take the optimal decisions. In the beginning you will feel a little bit frustrated because of the strange control, but after 5 minutes you will feel the whole game.
The graphic is based on DirectX 8, despite the simplicity of the game which could be created based on OpenGL.
Nothing much to say about the sound. It exists, not to feel yourself deaf.
Pluses: help view; 3D objects
Drawbacks / flaws: you cannot rotate the board;
In conclusion: Brings a new dimension to the old Tetris.
