 | | Red Eye Pilot is an application which can reduce the so called red eye effect in your digital photos.
The red color comes from light that reflects off of the retinas in our eyes. The flash on a camera is bright enough to cause a reflection off of the retina. Red eye effect is mostly visible in photos taken in less bright environments.
After you open a file, you must click in the area of the photo most affected by the red eye effect. Then you can adjust, using a slider, the surface of the area affected. You can also adjust the brightness of the overlay applied to that area. There are some removal functions available, and you can select them from the user interface of the program. The best function differs from one picture to another, so I can't say which one is the best.
When I tried to apply the red eye reduction to several areas, I couldn't save the overlay brightness setting, resulting in the fact that an eye was brighter than the other. If you have a lot of photos affected you have to be patient because it will take a long time to process all of them.
Pluses: In most corrected photos the color of your eyes is still visible.
Drawbacks / flaws: Only drag and drop to the Mac OS X dock is supported.
In conclusion: There wasn't any picture that I couldn't remove the red eye effect from using this program, although in some cases it took some time.
