Spy Killer 5.0

Every spyware program you find, tells you that it is award winning and that it is the best anti-spyware tool. That's why I took the time to write a review about Spy Killer. I can't say this program is the best, but I can say it's one of the good ones.

The program is composed of three parts. The first is the quick scanner. It can remove infected items from your computer by scanning files, memory, cookies, and the Windows registry. It can also look into archives. The second major part of the application is the "System Shield". This shield protects your computer from harmful ActiveX and Adware. The list of threats it detects is updated automatically. Finally, the third part provides real-time protection against cookies and spyware.

I used this software for a couple of days and it detected and blocked about eight possible threats. I don't visit x-rated websites so this came as somewhat of a surprise to me, thus I decided to investigate further. I realized that the blocked cookies were not harmful in any way. They were just used to store my passwords on certain sites.

Pluses: Several extra tools are available in the program's user interface. The "File Shredder" securely deletes your files so nobody will be able to recover them. The "Hijack Scan" scans your startup items and allows you to delete any of them. Another useful feature is the possibility to lock your homepage.

Drawbacks / flaws: Sometimes this software may detect false threats. The program can display an alert window when it detects a threat, but there is no way of canceling the disinfect operation.

In conclusion: Spy Killer kills many threats that may otherwise affect your computer.
