| | Reviewer: ecomguy Date: 04/09/2008 Version: 1.23 see all my reviews (1) Overall rating: 4.5 Features: 4 Stability: 5 Ease of use: 5 Interface: 4 | Handled old scanner well & easy to use I tried a competitor product written in Europe, and it was never able to communicate with my scanner. For some reason the twain interface for my old Microtek ScanMaker E6 wants to scan faxes at 150 ppi instead of the standard 200 ppi. I contacted the other PC fax software company; they tried to solve the problem, but admitted that they were stumped. I then tried RKSFax, and it worked on the first try with my scanner. A pop up window appeared after the first scan stating that some extra processing needed to be done to get it to scan at 200 ppi, but it did so automatically, producing a full sized fax image of the page that I wanted to send instead of the ¾ sized image produced using the competitor’s software. As I sent the fax RKSFax gave me useful feedback messages every step of the way. The competitor product gave only limited feedback, and kept me guessing about what was going in – including whether any pages beyond the cover page had successfully been sent. The software seems easy to use and fairly full featured. I was able to send my first scanned page and cover page without reading any instructions. The user interface on this software is very plain – some would say ugly. That doesn’t bother me a bit. For software that costs 20 bucks and works very well on the first try, including having a ready made solution for a difficult technical problem, I think that the plain appearance is a reasonable trade off. There is beauty in getting the job done quickly and well without wasting the user’s time or money. » reply to this review was this review helpful? - report abuse | | | | | Related software downloads for RKS Fax 1.50 |
