 | | KeePass Password Safe is an Open Source password manager which can help you securely store your passwords in one place using AES Rijndael algorithms.
The program appears to be quite simple, but with advanced security options. First of all, after you've installed it, the program will prompt you for a master password which will be used to unlock the program. You can you also a key file in order to increase the security level for your data.
The passwords will be stored in folders named 'Groups'. You can use the 6 predefined groups or you can add custom groups. When creating a new entry, the program will allow you to attach binary fields or files, to add string fields, and it will show you the strength of your password. In case you aren't satisfied with your passwords' strength, you can allow the program to generate passwords for you. It took me 10 seconds to get 10,000 256-bit passwords.
One thing I'm looking for is the mobility. I learned that 'KeePass Password Safe' can be safely installed and run from a USB Flash memory stick. Just make sure you save your password database on the memory stick.
Pluses: You can import passwords from a dozen of other password managers and you can export the database in XML and HTML format; you can install plugins and extensions to improve its features (for free).
Drawbacks / flaws: The program is a bit difficult to use until you get accustomed to its features. The auto-type feature is not extremely well implemented, in my opinion. There no option for Internet Explorer context menu integration. However, you can download plugins in order to improve the program's features.
In conclusion: Although I tested the alpha version, the program performed very well and I'm sure the drawbacks mentioned above will be solved as soon as possible.
