Podmailing 0.11.2

Podmailing enables you to send large files by using a special online server and e-mail notifications. This application works by uploading the files you send to the publisher's server. It also sends e-mails to the people you choose as recipients. The e-mail contains a link to a special file (.zed) which can only be opened by the Podmailing application. The recipient must download and install the application, in order to be able to download the shared file.

The first time I tried uploading a big file, I got an error about the Podmailing server not being available. However, the next time I tried, everything worked smoothly. The publisher of this software uses a combined architecture, mixing a centralized service with peer-to-peer technology. This provides the users of the service with the best availability and speed.

In terms of user interface, the program is very good. The list of received podmails is displayed separately from the list of sent ones. "Podmail" is the term used by the publisher to describe a file which was downloaded or uploaded using the application.

Pluses: Podmailing is able to automatically use the UPnP features of your firewall for configuring the port forwarding rules. This is only necessary for peer-to-peer transfers. It's also possible to configure the program's maximum upload speed.

Drawbacks / flaws:

In conclusion: This application is great for sending large files over the Internet. However, I am not convinced about the security of the service, so I wouldn't put my credit card info in an e-mail sent with Podmailer.
