DMG Master is a disk image creation utility.
The interface of the application provides a pretty simple way to create disk images. You need to provide a name for the output file, a disk path, a compression level, the possibility to encrypt the image, and a list of files/folders as input.
The name of the archive can use some special regular expressions, so you can automatically insert things like date and time into the file name. The application can also overwrite or not an existing image if you use the same name.
A disk creation job can be saved as a document, so you can repeat that job anytime. This makes the application appropriate for backup tasks.
The file input supports multiple folders or files. This kind of feature is something that usually isn't available in these kind of applications because most of them use a single directory input.
Pluses: an easy way to create disk images; it can be used for backup purposes; it supports time dependent regular expressions for the file names; it is stable even when it works with large quantities of files.
Drawbacks / flaws: In conclusion: the application provides most of the features that are required for an application like this, except the possibility to customize the window and icon of the output disk image, thus is not the best option for software distribution. DMG Master is a software to create DMG image archive with a document based approach.
With DMG Master you save all your setting in a document. You can save and use as many documents as you like.
When you want to create a specific image archive with various content placed anywhere in your hard Disk, also in different places, you open the document and press the button. Done!
If you need to create different image archives simply create a document with DMG master for any of them.
DMG Master has various features, as example you can specify to have image archive created with name embedding also time date tag elements (useful for data backups)
You don't need to have all the sources of a image archive placed inside a folder, you can choose various files and folder in various place on your Hard Disk and DMG Master will use them to create a image archive leaving the original untouched and unmodified.
You can select in the preferences to perform a specific action at startup, opening a specified document or opening a new one.
You can save the password used for the image associated to a document inside the document to avoid having to retype it any time you rebuild the image, in case you need to update frequently an encrypted image.
