pcBaseline is a system tool designed basically for advanced users and computer literates in order to provide critical detailed system information. The program is freeware, but it requires (free) registration after a 30 day trial period.
The program allows you to inspect all kinds of Windows components, including general system info, running processes, services, browser toolbars and browser helper objects, registry keys and so on.
All the items are grouped into categories in a tree on the left hand side of the program window, while the details are depicted on the right hand side of the program window. The program will take snapshots of your system and creates so called 'baselines'. These baselines can be created using a wizard (for customization) or using the context menu or the assigned hotkey.
You can use the program to create, compare or delete baselines and to create backups before proceeding to modify settings. There is also an option for quarantining items. The program features also shortcuts to Web search (for items), to Command Prompt, Explorer, Add/Remove Programs. There is also an option to schedule the creation of baselines.
Pluses: System reports (baselines) can be exported in TXT or HTML file format. Using the right click menu, you can instantly perform an Internet search of any of the items depicted in the reports.
Drawbacks / flaws:
In conclusion: An excellent system tool designed for tracking and supervision of system configuration changes.
