JustLooking 3.3.3

JustLooking is a "Preview" application replacement.

JustLooking can only be used for previewing image files, so it won't open files like Adobe Acrobat 'pdf' files. It has its focus on the files and directories. It shows the real image instead of interpreting the DPI information. It also has a nice fading effect.

The entire application can be easily controlled by using your keyboard. You can delete, increase or decrease the image and even make it "fit to window" for a more comfortable view. The software can also rotate the files. There is also a "show in finder" option that opens the Finder window with the file currently being viewed. You can chose "thumbnail window" that option will show all existing images in thumbnail preview, you can easily chose what image to view or start slideshow from.

The transitions between files are very smooth and customizable. You can choose "fade effect" with "slow", "normal", and "fast" modes. Also, if you have animated "gif" files, there is a "wait for animated images to complete" checkbox, which should come very handy. In slideshow you can chose changing speed in seconds and "fade effect" type mode.

There is an option for associating the most common image files with this program. There's also a resizing function. You can resize the currently viewed photo by pixel dimension or by physical dimension. This is an easy way to resize your photos for better quality prints. The default pixel/inch for printing is 180, but you can modify that as well. You can chose between inches or centimeters, depending to what units you are used to. The "lock proportions" option has the ability to distinguish longest edge of portrait and landscape, so the resize won't affect proportionality.

Pluses: easy to use, stable, nice effects and the focus on the files in directory makes JustLooking a good alternative to "Preview".

Drawbacks / flaws: some image - editing features would be a great addition in the future

In conclusion: if you got tired of dragging files into "Preview" you might give JustLooking a try.
