 | | Lingoes is a very cool and useful free dictionary and translation software. This program is a powerful translation platform featuring cross translation in over 60 languages and text translation in over 15 languages: English, French, Russian, German, Chinese, Japanese, etc.
Actually, the program hosts more than one dictionary. After installation, you need to download and install the dictionaries you need. These dictionaries are free and they can be downloaded from the producer's Website. Installed dictionaries can be added as part of index and cursor groups. This means that the program will use them when translating words or phrases entered manually, or when working in cursor mode.
Now, let's have a look at the multiple possibilities of translation using this application. You can translate words or phrases using the classical method of manually entering them. Another way to use this program is the "cursor mode". Point the cursor to a word, press the 'Shift' key and the translation will appear in a small pop-up window next to the selected word. The program also offers you the possibility of clipboard translation.
Another handy feature of the program is that you can translate stuff using online translation engines such as dictionary.com or others alike. You can search for items, print out translations or listen to the exact pronunciation of terms or phrases.
The interface is nicely designed, ergonomic and it provides a pleasant translation experience. You can also set hotkeys for different actions.
Pluses: Online and offline translation functionality; pronunciation, clipboard translation, etc.
Drawbacks / flaws:
In conclusion: An excellent translation software.
