 | | Connection Monitor is a small piece of software which is designed to help you monitor your Internet traffic for long periods of time.
The program will check your Internet connection at an interval of your choice (by pinging a host). The default host is www.google.com. You can manually select the time interval for connection check and you can also manually set the host you want to ping in order to check your connection status. You can set the program to play a sound, run an application, send an email, reboot computer, add entry to log, etc whenever your connection to the Internet is dropped.
The main thing about this program is the fact that it can be set to run as a Windows service (start with Windows) and it will provide accurate daily, weekly, monthly or yearly statistics containing the total downtime, how many time was the connection interrupted, Kb received and Kb sent.
Pluses:
Drawbacks / flaws: The sending of emails in case your connection is down doesn't work for mail servers which require authentication. You can only view traffic displayed in kilobytes.
In conclusion: Quite simple and not very appealing, but it does the trick.
