 | | Simple Startup Manager is just another startup manager. Simple enough to resemble to the Windows 'MSCONFIG' utility like two drops of water.
The program is designed to help you manage the applications and services which start with Windows, free Windows memory by killing redundant processes and detect viruses and worms, at least that's what the producer states about the program. Thing is that I couldn't find any feature which can take care of viruses and worms and there's no entry in the 'Help' section related to a topic as such.
Otherwise, the program is easy to use, if you know what you are doing. You can use this program to edit startup programs' registry keys, the Windows Startup folder or the 'Win.ini' file. The program will display the name of the application, the command line, arguments, place (target) and the status. Double clicking an item will bring up a window containing all the details mentioned before. In this window, you can edit the applications' properties. The program can also be used to start or stop services.
Pluses: 'MSCONFIG' with an interface which makes it easy to use. You can create and save custom startup profiles.
Drawbacks / flaws: You can't use the program to modify the 'Win.ini' file. The program doesn't detect the stopped startup entries. You don't have access to 'sytem.ini' and 'boot.ini' files for a complete startup configuration. There are no recommendations, so, a beginner wouldn't know what to do with this program.
In conclusion: In my opinion, why pay money for a program which does the job of an in-buit Windows utility. Just click Start - Run - type 'msconfig' and you can use the 'System Configuration Utility' for free.
