| | MiniCapture is a cute and handy screen capturing and video conversion utility.
The program is designed to help you capture either a window on your screen or a rectangular area (the rectangular area can be a full screen). You can also take snapshots of your screen. These will be saved in either of JPG, BMP, GIF, PNG, TIF, TIFF file formats or they can be copied to clipboard.
The interface is nice and forthcoming, which makes the program very easy to use. Before making a recording of your screen, you can choose the framerate, the compressor (codec), etc. Recording with sound is available.
Besides screen capturing capabilities, this program can be used also as a video converter. The major formats are supported. You can input AVI, MPEG, MP4, 3GP, MOV, WMV, ASF, JPG, GIF, BMP file types. The supported output formats are: AVI, MPEG, WMV,MOV, RMVB, SWF, iPod, PSP. Extracting audio from video files is an extra option of this program.
Pluses: Some nice features are the possibility to preview files in the in-built player and the fact that you can capture media player screens.
Drawbacks / flaws: The program crashed a couple of times when trying to merge audio and video streams. Once you start the capturing process, the program window won't disappear automatically, which is a little bit annoying in case it is on top of the area you wish to capture.
In conclusion: A very good screen capturing utility, suitable for basic needs.
