 | | Notes2Go allows you to protect the text you write. You can use it to write simple text notes, which you can encrypt into RTF files. My first impression of this software was pretty poor, because after I installed it, I saw its icon. This icon doesn't look very nice because it uses a low resolution.
As I said, this program creates RTF files. Due to the fact that they are encrypted, you won't be able to understand any of their content when you open them with Windows Wordpad or with a similar RTF editor. You must use Notes2Go in order to decrypt them.
This application uses a password to protect your documents. The password you specify is also used as an encryption key for the whole document. When you try to decrypt a file using a wrong password inside the application's user interface, an error message is displayed.
Pluses: The application's user interface supports skinning.
Drawbacks / flaws: In my opinion, the user interface should be improved. For example, when I tried to confirm the password used for protecting a document, I pressed the TAB key. Instead of going to the next field, the window lost its focus. Also, each time you select a new function (create/decrypt/update), the main window loses focus for a second.
In conclusion: Notes2Go is freeware. Considering the fact that the encryption algorithm works well, I can say that this application is a pretty good tool for protecting simple notes.
