 | | SqlWeb Explorer allows you to access a database through a web server (MySQL, Microsoft SQL, Oracle, etc.). The web server is used as a relay for the SQL commands issued by the application. In order to get it to work, you need a couple of files, which you must copy to your web server. Once the files are there, you must enter the name of the folder where you uploaded the files in the program's user interface. You must also enter the credentials you use to connect to the database server.
The program allows you to define multiple database connections, but you can't use them simultaneously. After you connect, you can use multiple query windows to navigate through your database. The program automatically opens a new query window when you select to view a different table from the database you are connected to.
I have to mention that there are programs (like SqlYog) that serve a similar purpose, but come with no charge. However, due to the fact that they need a direct connection to the database server, sometimes these programs can't be used.
Pluses: You can enter a new query and execute it by pressing CTRL+E. Unfortunately, this shortcut key is not customizable.
Drawbacks / flaws: The connection to the database is practically read-only. There is an "import table data" feature, but it isn't nearly enough for an advanced user. When issuing queries to a MySQL database it's impossible to use the LIMIT keyword. Each time I used this keyword in my queries, the program displayed an error.
In conclusion: SqlWeb Explorer needs a few extra features and bugfixes. Otherwise, it's the only program I know that can use a web server as an intermediary in a connection to a database.
