 | | USB CopyNotifyer is a program to be used on a network in order to let you know whenever a USB device is connected to or disconnected from the workstations on which the program is running. As we all know, data security might prove to be a major issue for companies today. For those who need a high degree of security in order to prevent data theft or the uploading of malware from USB devices, 'USB CopyNotifyer' might be the answer.
The program consists of two components: the Server and the Client applications. The Server application is to be installed on the computer used by the system administrator or the person who will be in charge of network monitoring or security. The Server application will run in the system tray and it will notify you by popping-up a dialog box whenever a USB device is connected or disconnected to the workstations on which the Client application is running.
The Client component is to be installed on the computers which will be monitored. Same as the Server component, the Client will run in the system tray (hidden if necessary) ans send an alert upon detection of USB services. After installation on the monitored computers, you only need to enter the IP number of the server computer, and monitoring may start immediately.
It's true, the program doesn't block the usage of removable devices, but it logs all activity so that anyone can have an accurate image of USB devices' usage on all networked workstations. The logs will contain a time stamp, the name of the remote computer and its IP number.
Pluses: The program will work even if you choose to 'Take no action' when the Windows autorun will attempt to open the content of your removable device.
Drawbacks / flaws:
In conclusion: A valuable free piece of software designed to enforce data security.
