| | DiskEncryptor is used for encrypting partitions on your hard drive or CD images. It uses AES 256-bit encryption to protect the data. A password is required for accessing the encrypted image or disk.
I encrypted a 10GB partition with this tool after formatting it. I then copied about 1MB of data onto it. Next, I locked the partition. Every time I tried to access the drive from My Computer, a password dialog appeared. In order to access the drive, I had to enter the password I used when encrypting it. Every file I copied onto this drive was automatically encrypted. The program stays resident in the memory, processing all the data that is written to or read from the locked drive.
Another thing I tried, was to encrypt a CD image and it worked. However, if you write the ISO image onto a CD, you won't be able to use that CD. The options dialog of this application only allows you to set it to run on Windows startup and to enable/disable the icon in the system tray.
Pluses:
Drawbacks / flaws: The program stops responding while encryption/decryption of a drive is in progress. Also, it took about one hour to decrypt 1MB of data from a 10GB partition. Probably, the application also decrypted the free space.
In conclusion: I wasn't impressed with DiskEncryptor.
