 | | Active Wall Traffic Monitor is a network tool designed to monitor all traffic on computers part of a local area network.
Once installed, the program can be run as a service and it can be used for non-stop monitoring of your network traffic. The data flow can be measured in packets or bytes while traffic over the following protocols will be monitored: TCP, UDP, ICMP, IGMP.
When run for the first time, you can choose to let the program detect automatically the machines in the LAN, you can enter a range of IPs to be scanned or you can add manually computers. Monitored computers can be added to groups for easier monitoring. The program will display each computer's IP number, MAC address and name.
As for monitoring info, you can view the send/receive/total speed, the sent/received/total bytes or packets and the denied packets. Data can be logged and exported as log files. The program can be protected with a password.
Pluses:
Drawbacks / flaws: Too few monitored protocols.
In conclusion: This is an interesting and useful network monitoring too, but, in my opinion, only does half of the job. Monitoring of SMTP, POP3, FTP or other protocols would be a nice improvement.
