 | | 'SecretDrive' is an interesting program. It can create protected drives which will be stored on your hard drive. In the demo version you can create only 650 MB drives but in the paid version seems that you can create bigger ones. The bigger ones are as large as a CD or a DVD, 700 MB or 4481 MB, if you use the fixed ones provided by the program. If you manually enter it in the 'Size, MB' field, the largest one can be as big as 30000 MB. Your secret drives can be password protected and when you unmount them, they will disappear from 'My Computer'. This is a good way to protect your data because no one will ever find it and if someone finds it will have to discover the password in order to access your files. The program uses 5 encryption algorithms : AES (Rijndael), GOST 28174-89, Blowfish, Twofish, CAST 256.
Unfortunately you can create only fixed size disks. For example, if you create a backup archive for your operating system, which can be bigger that a DVD you can't store it in one of this secret drives. While testing the program, I discovered that if you try to delete the file created by this program on your hard drive you won't be stopped nor warned. Accidents happen all the time and it might be deleted by mistake. Although it has a trial period some of its features are blocked so you can't really tell how they work.
The user interface is very simple and the configuration for a new drive is made in a simple four steps wizard.
Pluses: With this program is very easy to hide your private files.
Drawbacks / flaws: Even if your files are secured and can't be read anyone can delete them by mistake or on purpose.
In conclusion: It's a very interesting program but unless the producer finds a way to protect the file created on the disc I wont entrust it with my data.
