WWW File Share is a great tool for sharing files and folders over a network or over the Internet using the HTTP protocol. It allows you to define a directory on your computer which should be shared. This directory is accessible through any browser, including Internet Explorer, Firefox, and so on. The program uses TCP port 80 by default, but if this port is used it automatically falls back to port 81 or another free port. You can choose any other TCP port from the program's main window.
When first starting the program, you should specify a directory to share. This directory can be changed, even when the program is started. The program's main window looks nice, allowing you to start or stop the server and to enable, disable, or configure the existing plugins. It's also possible to disable the plugin system entirely.
Plugins are supported by this software for adding extra features. This software package contains 9 plugins, of which only 7 are started by default. These plugins can be used for capturing the screen of the computer running WWW File Share, for instant messaging, for viewing open TCP ports, for displaying system information, for capturing images from a webcam and more. I guess it's worth mentioning that you can also use plugins to shutdown the computer on which this software is installed from a remote location and you can configure a photo album which should be accessible over the Internet.
WWW File Share resembles a Web server. If you can't access the program's features from another computer it may be due to a firewall.
Pluses: Developers have the option of writing custom plugins for WWW File Share. A complete tutorial on how to write your own plugin is available on the
publisher's website.
Drawbacks / flaws: I would have liked the program to support password authentication.
In conclusion: WWW File Share is great for sharing files, but it can also be used for managing a computer from a remote location.
