 | | 'Image Tool' is a simple application that can resize or convert various types of image files.
The application's interface is quite simple. It gives you an area where you can load a file. This area also represents a preview area for the input file. The second area represents the preview area for the output file.
The resize engine gives you some predefined multipliers or you can manually enter either the Width or the Height dimensions in pixels. There isn't any option that disables the forced aspect ratio of the output file. Therefore, the output image always has the same aspect ratio as the original one.
The output can be done in several ways. You can place the image to the clipboard to be used by other applications, you can use the 'Save as' functionality, or the faster 'Save to Desktop' functionality.
It can save the images to several formats like JPG, GIF, TIFF, PNG, or BMP. The same formats are also supported as the input files. For example, I tried to provide a JPEG-2000 as source and the application rejected it. The input also has the support for the clipboard. Therefore, you can import images into this application that were placed onto the clipboard by other programs with image manipulation features.
Pluses: It resizes and converts images pretty easily and fast. It allows you to modify the DPI (Dot per Inch) of the image manually.
Drawbacks / flaws: The list of supported file types is a little bit short, but the most popular formats are supported. It also can't change the aspect ratio of the output file.
In conclusion: This application is good enough for minimal image manipulation activities, such as resizing and converting.
version reviewed: 1.4.1 Image Tool Publisher's Description Image Tool is a utility to scale images and convert image file formats. Source images can be tiff, jpg, gif, bmp, png or pdf. Source Images can be dragged and dropped into the application’s main window, or onto the application’s icon. There are buttons for quick resizes, or exact sizes can be typed in. Images can be output to tiff, jpg, gif, bmp or png. Image Tool can also work directly in and out of the pasteboard, rather than with files. Image data from the pasted board (selected and copied from another application, such as Preview) can be selected as the source image. After resizing, the scaled image can be copied into the pasteboard to be pasted into another application. System Requirements Mac OS X 10.4 or later. | | | | Download Image Tool | Screenshots
