Download Manager is a program that gives you the usual functionality of this kind of software.
I looked for the browser integration right after starting this application.
Safari didn't work with this application,
Mozilla Firefox with its extension (FlashGot), didn't work with this program either. The solution is the built in support for browsing, using the cookies and browser identification as Mozilla. This is not a real browser, because it just returns a list with all the links. You can separate the Web pages from the downloadable items such as archives, installation images, executables, etc.
The download worked pretty well with all the files that I tried. The application has the support for resuming a broken download because of a dropped connection. Another nice feature is the history manager. If you accidentally deleted one of your previous downloads, then the history manager can be a life savior.
The 'Preferences' panel is not very big, but it has the required features for a medium download manager. There you can use the settings for HTTP or FTP authentication for example.
There are some missing features, such as the possibility to define the number of the threads for the download. I believe this application doesn't have any support for multithread downloads. Another missing thing is the support for proxy types, other than HTTP, and the possibility to use these proxies only for certain downloads.
Pluses: it can resume the broken downloads, it has a decent history manager, it has minimal browsing capabilities in order to get a list of the downloadable files, and the support for HTTP and FTP authentication.
Drawbacks / flaws: it has the support just for HTTP proxy servers, it lacks the browser integration, the user interface is not very inspired.
In conclusion: there are better alternatives, especially if you like the browser integration. I may suggest
Speed Download or a Mozilla Firefox extension, Download Them All.
