Call Recorder is a simple plugin for Skype that allows you to record your conversations as MOV files.
There are just a few important settings into the 'Preferences' panel. You can find settings about the audio encoding, audio quality, and some recording options such as auto recording call, recording Voicemail messages, or showing the recording controls at launch. The last setting there is the path where it saves the output files.
Besides the 'Preferences' panel, you can get a floating window with the main controls of this plugin. You can start/stop the recording very easily by using this window.
The package provides you some standalone tools, which can be used for all kinds of conversions. Using iTunes's rendering engine for audio conversions, these apps can convert the movies into AAC, AIFF, MP3, or it can split movie tracks.
The splitting tool is very useful, because it extracts the audio tracks from a QuickTime movie into individual files. Since this Skype plugin uses separate track recording for incoming and outgoing calls, this tool is very useful for separating them. They are available free; the only shareware component is the plugin itself.
Pluses: is very easy to use, it provides a simple user interface, but with all the required features.
Drawbacks / flaws: you have no control over the video encoding quality or the video codec. The standalone apps that are provided with this tool refuse to shutdown by clicking the usual close button, you would need to shut them down by using the contextual menu from the Dock.
In conclusion: this tool is very useful for people that would like to record their own Skype conversations. The simplicity of this tool makes it perfect for someone to use without any headaches.
