Atomic RAR Password Recovery is a software designed to restore passwords for archives created by WinRAR.
The first time I saw the description of this program I couldn't stop thinking of Advanced RAR Password Recovery. I did hope I will find a better tool for recovering the passwords from an encrypted RAR archive. Well I didn't find it in this one.
It has a quite easy to use interface and it looks more like a wizard. The first thing that I saw was a crash when I hit the templates button. I did get over this and I tried to crack the encrypted RAR archive.
First I tried with the Dictionary Attack. You can find lots of options there except the last one (All possible combinations) that is not implemented. It looks like an unfinished application. My surprise was the fact that the application actually lacks the dictionaries.
Next, I have tried with Brute Force Attack. Compared to the latest version of Advanced RAR Password Recovery, for this job Atomic Password Recovery is a little slower. As a bonus, it is quite nasty to enter a charset because you will have to do this manually. The default charsets are Latin lowercase, Latin uppercase and digits from 0-9. There isn't any option for special chars or for all printable.
Pluses: the wizard based interface is very easy to use for a beginner in RAR password recovering.
Drawbacks / flaws: it is a buggy application, it isn't a complete implementation of all functions, it is slower that other applications that can do the same job, it lacks advanced options for brute force, it lacks dictionaries.
In conclusion: the application gave me the impression of a weak implemented application. It is quite expensive compared to other applications that are doing the same job.
Atomic RAR Password Recovery is a software designed to restore the password for the archives created by WinRAR. Due to the structure of the RAR-file, encryption in RAR is quite strong, so the password can not be found instantly as it takes a lot of resources. The speed of the password search depends on the archive version. Password restoring procedure for RAR 2.xx archives is much faster then for the RAR 3.xx ones.
