| | This software is designed to help you catalog CDs, DVDs, and folders from your hard drive. MCataloguer uses MSXML 6 (Microsoft XML Core Services). Unless you are using Windows Vista, you'll need to install this as well. The MCataloguer installation procedure includes a step for installing this software, so don't worry.
The catalog is organized as a tree. Each CD, DVD, or folder that you add to the catalog is added to the first level of the tree, and the contents are added into the leaves. When indexing the contents, MCataloguer saves information from ID3 tags, picture thumbnails, and archive listings. All these come in very handy when you search through the catalog.
Another nice thing about the application is the fact that it allows you to search the Internet for covers directly from the user interface. When you find the right cover for a CD or DVD, you can easily add it to the catalog. Covers can also be added from image files from your computer.
Pluses: The application supports synchronizing the contents of the catalog with the actual contents. You should use this feature whenever you index a folder from your computer and then modify it. Exporting the catalog into a CSV, text, or XML file is also supported.
Drawbacks / flaws: The program locks if you select the Edit -> Comment menu when you are already editing a comment. This is a minor bug, so comments can still be added to any item from the catalog.
In conclusion: MCataloguer is a good utility for keeping track of your CD/DVD collection. It also allows you to index the folders on your computer.
