| | 'Print365' is a complex program that monitors your network for print jobs. This software package contains two applications. The server is used to collect and analyze the print jobs information, while the client is used exclusively to monitor each computer. The client automatically connects to the server when it detects a new print job, and sends information about the document being printed. You can use the program to monitor all the computers on your network, but you must install the client application on all of them.
Configuring the program is pretty simple. You need to have a static IP address on the computer that runs the server application, because you have to enter this address on each client. During the program's installation, you have the option to install the server, the client, or both. When you install the server, a special Windows Service is installed along with the application. The service performs the actual data gathering, while the application shows the statistical information.
The information provided by the server application is split into several categories, displayed as a tree. You can see the number of printers that were used since the program was installed. Each printer's name is displayed, along with the number of pages printed using that printer. Percentage info about each printer's usage is also shown, allowing you to view which printer is used the most. Print365 also offers information about the computers that were used to send jobs to a printer, and the username of each person who printed a document.
Pluses: Data about printer usage can be filtered, depending on the time and date when each print job occurred. This allows you to see what time of day, which day of the week, or during which month printers are used the most.
Drawbacks / flaws: The "Export to Excel" feature doesn't work on my computer. This is probably because I don't have Microsoft Excel installed.
In conclusion: I am sure this software can be very useful, in an organization that uses printers.
