 | | Urgent Backup is an easy to use tool for backing up files and folders. It supports backing up and restoring files from FTP, network, and local drives. Just like any other backup software, Urgent Backup organizes your backup tasks into a list. You can easily add new tasks, and edit or remove existing ones.
When you define a new task you first need to select its type. You can choose one of several task types, including backup, restore, FTP mirror, upload, download, and copy. The new task dialog resembles a wizard very much, although it uses a tabbed interface. Depending on the type of task you want to define, a couple of extra options (steps) are available. For example, if you need to backup an FTP drive, you need to specify credentials, whether to ignore symbolic links, to include sub-folders, and so on.
The application also includes a scheduling feature. Each task can be configured to run daily, monthly, yearly, or just once at a predefined date and time.
Pluses: It's possible create archived or encrypted backup copies with Urgent Backup. The program also supports running a third party tool when a task is started or when it is completed.
Drawbacks / flaws: I found several spelling errors in the user interface. For example, in the "Preferences" dialog, the word "prompts" is misspelled as "promts". This is not such a big drawback, but it certainly lowers the final mark.
In conclusion: Overall, Urgent Backup is a good tool which doesn't use too much of your system resources. It has a couple of features which make it worth a try.
