| | | | | MPG2PPC Publisher's Description MPG2PPC
Desktop application to convert video files to Pocket PC. Video files can be MPG (svcd), MPEG, DAT (vcd), VOB (dvd) or WMV files. Copy the files to hard-disk before encoding. When converting VCD's copy the dat files to hard-disk.
The program uses Windows Media Encoder 9 Series (download here), which by itself is a good encoder, but it does not handle batch encoding. MPG2PPC allows batch encoding of multiple files in a directory to wmv file format.
Selection of Profiles for best encoder settings. Default Pocket PC profiles come with MPG2PPC for video size 320x240:
| profile | audio format | video bit rate | frame rate | | Pocket MPG High CBR | 48 Kbs, 32 kHz, stereo | 288K bps | 25 fps | | Pocket MPG Medium CBR | 32 Kbs, 22 kHz, stereo | 225K bps | 20 fps | | Pocket MPG Low CBR | 20 Kbs, 22 kHz, mono | 150K bps | 15 fps | Use Windows Media Profile Editor for modifying and creating profiles.
Selection of passes to make for preprocessing: One-pass encoding: audio content is analyzed and compressed at the same time. Two-pass encoding: audio content is analyzed in the first pass, and then the best combinations of bit rate, frame rate, buffer size, and image quality are applied during the second pass. Two-pass encoding produces a better-quality result but the process takes longer.
Cropping: Minimize black bars at edges to make widescreen fit fullscreen.
Trimming: Specify where in the file to start and end encoding (full version only).
Run multiple encoders on one computer: You can run multiple instances of MPG2PPC and Windows Media Encoder on a single computer provided the computer is powerful enough to support them. By running multiple instances of MPG2PPC, you can: simultaneously convert multiple batches of files (different directories).
Memory usage: 1 hour of video can fit on a 128 MB storage card. 2 hours (1.16 GB) can be compressed to 177 MB. 3 hours can fit on a 256 MB card. Above specs are 32 kbs, 22 kHz, stereo sound (default Pocket MPG Medium CBR profile). Compression nearly doubles when using Low CBR profile for mono sound or Medium VBR profile (stereo). Filesize will be calculated before encoding, to ensure output fits memory card.
The results can be viewed on Pocket PC's in landscape mode with stereo sound.
System requirements Desktop PC: Windows 2000/XP (533 MHz processor minimum) + Windows Media Encoder 9 Series + compatible MPEG-2 software decoder. Pocket PC: Windows Mobile 2003 + storage card.
It takes about 3 hours to convert a 1 hour video file on a 533 MHz desktop pc. Or a half hour on a Pentium 4 2.6 GHz pc. Try the trial to check the program and the results. Trial restrictions: - only first 10 minutes are encoded - only one pass encoding - no trimming Trial version and Full version includes: WAV2PPC - convert WAV audio to WMA audio (10x compression) - convert MP3 audio to WMA audio - extract audio soundtrack from video (wmv, mpg, dat, vob) | | | | | Download MPG2PPC | Screenshots
