WinTasks 5 Professional 5.03

I searched Google many times because I didn't know what a certain DLL or EXE file did. Almost every time, I was directed to websites asking me to buy WinTasks and "take charge of my system". WinTasks is a software, which provides information about any computer running Windows. It also features a set of tools that help you protect your computer from security threats.

When first starting the program you see a list of the processes running on your computer. This list contains details including the full path of the executable, the number of threads, the CPU occupancy, and the memory usage. All this information is also available in the Windows Task Manager so there's nothing new here.

WinTasks Pro can be used as a system startup manager. It allows you to select which programs and scripts to execute on system startup. The "Windows" toolbar button gives you access to information regarding the windows opened by each application. WinTasks can block any process and show the DLLs (libraries) loaded by each application. This is useful when you remove spyware programs or viruses from your computer. Other features include a nice system performance graph and event logging capability.

Practically, this application gathers all the information about your Windows system into a single graphical user interface(GUI). This info can be a bit overwhelming for a beginner. I wouldn't recommend this application to a novice user.

Pluses: The detailed descriptions of system processes and of all kinds of files can be downloaded from the publisher's website. You can update these descriptions by using the "Check for Updates" button.

Drawbacks / flaws: The program is unstable sometimes. It locked up my desktop the first time I tested it. The only thing I could do to fix it was to restart my computer.

In conclusion: The program provides tons of information and useful features with a rather unstable user interface.
