| | I wanted to speed up my computer a bit, after installing and uninstalling software for several months. As you know, when you uninstall applications from your computer, sometimes they aren't deleted completely. The uninstalled applications leave fragments in your registry and on your hard disk as well as temporary files which affect your system's performance. This is where 'nCleaner' steps in. It erases useless files, it deletes and tweaks certain registry entries, and it allows you to select what programs to run at Windows startup.
The program's user interface is easy to use. Even a rookie user wouldn't run into any problems when using this software. A simple "Clean now" button, allows you to clean up all the files and registry entries leftover by previously installed software.
Another useful program feature is the "Find junk" tool. It allows you to clean your hard disk by removing temporary files, invalid shortcuts, empty files and folders, and so on. Whenever you use this feature, you have two options. You can do either a "smart scan", which only scans your Program Files, Documents and Settings, and Windows folder, or a full system scan on all of your drives. The publisher says that up to 2GB of free space can be recovered and I tend to agree with them. If you don't clean your temporary folders regularly, they can get cluttered with useless files, which only takes-up space on your hard disk.
nCleaner can also permanently remove deleted files from your hard disk. This feature can be useful for someone trying to hide sensitive data, but I can't see how it can help a regular user. Finally, my word of advice is that nCleaner should be used with care just like any other system maintenance utility. Meaning that if you are not sure about what you are doing, you should stop.
I recommend that you look closely to the user interface when using the program or you might miss several features. I'm talking about the features displayed as white tabs on a light green background.
Pluses: nCleaner supports cleaning up your hard disk automatically. This feature is called "System Partition Monitor" and it can be enabled through the program's user interface. The application also supports optimizing your memory by moving blocks from your physical memory (RAM) to your hard disk.
Drawbacks / flaws:
In conclusion: Overall, nCleaner is a very good system maintenance tool. The fact that it's freeware definitely makes it worth to try.
