Plato DVD Ripper 10.08.02

'Plato DVD Ripper' is, as the name suggests, a program meant to help you backup your DVD disks.

The program is very easy to use and you can chose among six output file type categories. Besides the classical DivX, VCD or SVCD file types, you can select among IPOD, PSP, 3GP, and Pocket PC categories. In each one of these categories you can set some options for profile settings, video size, bit rate, frame rate, aspect ratio, channels, or the output folder. In the 'VCD SVCD' category you can select the video mode and the splitting mode.

While testing the program, I was a little surprised by the speed of the ripping process. In the trial version, the program only rips 30% of your DVD. In the tests, 28 minutes of movie were ripped in 20 minutes while displaying screen shots from the movie stored on the DVD. The status window is located in the right part of the main window and here you can see, besides the information related to the conversion status, information about the source and the destination of the file. Overall, I enjoyed testing this program. It's a simple program doing a simple but very good job.

The user interface is intuitive and I believe that even a newbie can use this program. It might be redesigned though.

In conclusion: I look forward for the next version hopping that it will bring some new features.
