Meta-tags are extremely important for getting your web pages to rank highly on search engines; creating good title, keywords and description meta-tags for each page on your site, along with well written and formatted content, will allow the search engines to more easily identify what your pages are about, and therefore rank your pages better.
In South Africa, the Ananzi search engine ranks pages almost exclusively based on the meta-tags, and even Google and Yahoo! are beginning to take into account the keywords meta-tag, with one proviso; the keywords must accurately reflect the content of the page. The search engines use this tag to identify which of the keywords in the content you feel are the most important, so that they can return the most accurate results possible.
In order to use meta-tags effectively, however, every page on your site must have it's own, unique, meta-tags that accurately reflect the content of that page. This can be an arduous task, and most people just don't bother. We've created Rapid Meta-Tags to take all the drudgery out of creating meta-tags for your pages. Now you can simply open the html files in Rapid Meta-Tags, and the program will suggest meta-tags for you, based on the content of your page. You can even automatically update all the files in your site through a batch process!
