| If you know vb script it's a hoot
Brutus2D seems to come in a free version and a registered version. The free version only limits very few features (which are only used for advanced topics anyway) and includes a small splash screen in your programs when you create an executable.
With the registered version you are free of the splash screen and have particle emitters, some more advanced math functions, as well as all the features available in the free version.
Brutus2D is a super-set of vbscript, so all vbscript functions and keywords are available. It also includes a very easy to use graphics object with functions for loading graphics and displaying them. Moving, scaling and rotating is also done easily with the available commands. As far as i know the graphics are rendered using the graphics card so are hardware accelerated and therefore very fast.
Sound is also easy to use in Brutus2D. As with graphics, Brutus2D has a sound object with all the functions needed for loading, setting playback speed, looping etc. There is also a Music object to work with both MP3 and Ogg vorbis and even MIDI files.
For the newcomers the free version is often more then enough and there is always help available on the forums.
For the more advanced users Brutus2D offers alpha transparency for all graphics commands and as a superset of vbscript it supports object oriented programming. There is also a primitive object for making some simple GUIs. It is able to make dll calls which make it very expandable.

| application error
i ran the install om my alienware xp and then tried the program itself. i got application error 'instruction at 16d26 tried to access memory at 16d26, cannot write. if it wont run, i uninstalled it.
