Gaming is one of the biggest reasons behind computer sales. One of the biggest trends in gaming right now is the need to communicate with team mates within your gaming party. That’s one of the reasons why I like Garena. It’s a gaming communications platform for Windows.

Garena is a game platform similar to an instant messenger. Garena allows gamers to develop buddy lists, to chat with friends and to check on game progress and achievements. Gamers are able to form groups or clans, and chat with multiple gamers simultaneously through public or private channels. Garena has also provided a great GTalk platform which is useful for gamers to interact with.

Like other online game services, Garena uses Shells for a virtual currency. Gamers can create their own unique identity by customizing their avatar or changing their names. Users can also use Shells to purchase Gold memberships for instant access to the platform anytime, to create clans, or to buy themselves back in to the platform or to a game or clan.

Garena is a decent PC gaming platform. It allows you to not only play but to communicate with clans and hoards while you play with and against them. It’s a bit on the pricey side, however, as 3000 shells cost $60 USD, and Gold membership will cost you 1900 shells a year.

Information on what games are available and what they cost, over and above your gold membership fee are unclear, and not readily available on the site. Its difficult to understand what might be available and what it might cost.

The Steam Starts Rising – Valve Set to Release the Steam Box this Year!

If you play computer games, you’ve more than likely know of Steam, and the impact it’s had on the gaming world over the last few years. Steam, developed by Valve, is a digital distribution platform. It is used for distributing games and other related media online. The games vary from small independent developers to larger software houses. With Valve’s share of the gaming market constantly rising, it was only a matter of time before they would release their own games console. At CES 2013, Valve showcased prototypes of what will be known as the “Steam Box”. Following is everything you need to know about Valve’s steam box.
What is Steam Box?

The Steam Box is primarily designed to play PC games, specifically it’s designed to play games downloaded from Steam. The early prototypes of the Steam Box seem much smaller than a PC, but it is a PC – even though it might not be running windows. What Prototypes are Under Development? Several prototypes are currently under development. This includes the Xi3 Piston and Nvidia’s Project Shield. The Xi3 piston has received investment from Valve to continue developing the Piston, which is based on it’s existing X7A series. The Piston is reportedly set to be optimized for Steam’s big picture mode.Nvidia’s Project Shield is set to take the handheld gaming world by storm. Featuring a new Tegra 4 chip, the device contains, what looks like, a large Xbox 360 controller, along with a 5-inch 720p display screen. The device will run on Android and is Nvidia’s first project outside of the graphics card world.

What Operating System will be Supported by Steam Box?

The Steam Box is rumored to run with a Linux-based architecture, and will have the ability to run all the games currently available on Valve’s Steam platform. Although according to CEO Gabe Newell, the Steam Box won’t be limited to a single operating system. This means that although the unit will be shipped with Linux installed, the user could easily install another operating system, such as Windows.

What Hardware Configuration will be Featured?

Rumours are still circulating about the features of the Steam Box, but at this time it seems that the console is modelled around the existing X7A line of miniature computers. Reports have surfaced that the console will contain up to 1TB of internal storage, with other options available to purchase faster CPUs and RAM. The prototype at CES 2013 contained four eSATAp ports, four USB 2.0 ports, four USB 3.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet as well as one full-sized Display Port and two Mini Display Ports. What Input Device Will it Feature?Newell has reported that the input device for the Steam Box, will be unique, potentially utilising biometrics and gaze tracking. Newell also stated that he has no intention of making Wii-like or Kinect-like controllers.

When Will it be Available?

It’s likely that the Steam Box will be released this year, although no precise date has currently been released. The console is set to be tested around July, so it’s likely that any release date would be nearer the end of the year – perhaps just in time for Christmas.

Half the fun of playing a game is creating it. When you can create your own levels with your own mazes, it makes for an interesting time. This is one of the reasons why I like Roblox. Its an online gaming tool set and game for Windows.

ROBLOX, is a huge multiplayer online for kids and teens ages 8-16. Players can create their own virtual world, where they and other online members may enter and socialize. Games on Roblox can be scripted using a sandboxed edition of Lua 5.1, and can be used to schedule events that occur in-game, creating different scenarios.

To get the most out of ROBLOX, you have to create an either an online free or premium account. Your account gives you a customizable character and in-game real estate to play in. In the online game, you use various blocks and bricks to build whatever you want. If you’re stuck for an idea, you can always look at other user’s worlds or ROBLOX games that have been created.

The first thing that’ll strike you about ROBLOX is that it’s blocky. Building in Roblox is much like building with Legos. With time and effort, you can build enormous and complex buildings, structures and objects. However, you have to accept the game’s design limitations.

Roblox is very much like Mine Craft for those that play Xbox. The game is ok, and very basic for this modern world of powerful computer gaming systems and desktops. However, younger kids will definitely like making their own structures and playing game levels they’ve created themselves. If you don’t have an Xbox 360 console and have kids that want to play a Mine Craft like game, this is definitely an awesome choice.

First released in 1997, Tibia is one of the most long-running Massively Multi-Player Online Role Playing Games (MMORPGs). With more than a decade to draw in new players the userbase is huge, with active player numbers in the six figures. Unfortunately the global appeal of the game can make interactions difficult, as many players do not speak the same languages.

One of the big pluses of this game is the extremely low system requirements – compared to other MMORPGs. Basically any system can handle it. In addition to that, the download is nice and small, making it getting started a breeze. This is however the result to some quite simple graphics that may not be enough for some players that are used to big budget effects.

Players will see a nicely simple user interface, with inventories and other data confined to the side of the screen. Both PvP and non PvP servers are available, and ten years of updates means that there is a lot to play through and experience.

The free version will leave your character somewhat limited, with your character restricted to only four vocations and a limited list of features, unless you pay extra.

Tibia wouldn’t still be running if it wasn’t an enjoyable game. If you can get past the graphics then you will find a huge community and a lot of content. The free version is well worth your time and you might find yourself happily paying for extra features.
