MorphVOX Pro changes your voice online and in-game

One of the best thing in MMOs (massively multiplayer online games)  is the ability to communicate with other players. With the right game and the right equipment, you can speak to the rest of your party real time while hacking and slaying your way through zombies, a make believe military installation or fantasy dungeon. Now, if you would like to make things even more interesting and fun, you definitely have to try MorphVOX Pro Voice Changer.

MorphVOX Pro changes your voice online and in-game. With superior voice-learning technology, background cancellation, and sound quality, MorphVOX Pro can enhance your online and gaming experiences by finding a voice that matches your character’s persona. The overall effect can be quite cool when you pair a specific voice with a specific character.

MorphVOX Pro Voice Changer allows you to download free voice and sound pack. They let you add hundreds of new voices and sounds to the app. You can tweak each of these voices to your liking to produce many, new voice combinations. You can also download background sounds as well as voices. For example, you can sound like you’re in the middle of a traffic jam or shopping at the mall.

MVPVC-05

Superb voice changing algorithms and ultra-quiet background cancellation make it one of the cleanest-sounding voice changers available on the market. Its high-quality sound is perfect for creating voice-overs for your latest video or audio project.

MorphVOX Pro Voice Changer is a cool app. Some of the voice changing capabilities are pretty cool. I can see where this would work very well with online gaming where you’d pair your online persona with a specific voice. While it will work with other online audio and video chatting apps, after a while, the novelty is going to wear off, and you’re going to be left with a paid, voice filter that doesn’t have the same level of luster outside of an online game.

Xbox One and Only

xboxonelogo

Microsoft revealed their new multimedia console on May 21, 2013. Also known as the Durango project, the new console is the third iteration in the Xbox family. Officially named as Xbox One, this console brings the series to the next level of gaming experience, at least from the hardware point of view.

Unlike Xbox 360 which featured a PowerPC architecture, Xbox One comes with a x86 based one, making the backward compatibility with Xbox 360 games just a dream which will never come true. The processing speed will be determined by 8 GB of DDR3 RAM from which 3 GB will be reserved for apps and OS, the rest of memory being left for the actual games. The graphics unit is based on an AMD GCM architecture. Also the the new Xbox will not have a composite or component video output. The video and audio input and output will be combined into a HDMI 1.4 support which is ready for a 4K video resolution (3840×2160) and 7.1 surround sound output.

Microsoft went to a more simplified design for their new console, similar to PS3 featuring a two-tone “liquid black” finish and a boxy look. By all means, Xbox One is like a black box, with no replaceable components. Even the 500 GB hard drive cannot be changed or removed. The good thing about this design is that the console looks much more compact, with no moving parts. Even the Blu-Ray drive features a fixed retractable system for a more secure way of reading the discs.

In case you want to borrow some games from your friend, you should know that the game discs can be played on more than one console, but only after you pay a fee in order to unlock it on your console. That’s because the games are tied to both Xbox One console and Xbox Live account. Even if the game features only singleplayer you need to have 24 h internet access in order to play it.

The Kinect sensor is now part of the whole system. This means that Xbox One will not function without the sensor plugged in. The new Kinect uses a 1080p wide-angle view in comparison to the VGA resolution of the previous version, and has the ability to process a huge amount of data to read its environment. Therefore the sensor can now track up to 6 players at once, including their heart rate, and their gestures performed with the Xbox One controller.

xboxone04

The Xbox One controller maintains the overall look from the Xbox 360 design. If it works, why would you change it? The design of the directional pad has been changed to a four-way button while the battery compartment is slimmer. The big addition here are the triggers which will feature independent rumble motors which simulate directional vibrations. Imagine firing a gun with a trigger. On the xbox 360 gamepad you would get a vibration effect in the whole surface of the controller. But now, with the new technology, the vibration will focused only on the trigger.

xboxone03

A digital video recorder is the new component available in Xbox One, which empowers the user to record his gameplay. The user can also edit and share their video creations using built-in video editing tools. Unfortunately no one known at the moment if the DVR component will be able to record video from cable or satellite TV services.

The console is schedules to be released at the end of this year. Overall it seems that Microsoft will mark a new financial success with Xbox OneMore, and will be able to attract new users in their ecosystem, because their gimmick  is not just a gaming console, but more of a media center which  can easily compete against with other similar products like Apple TV and Google TV platform. More details and info will be presented exclusively at E3 2013.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent – the first person survival horror

Its time to take a break…I think. At least, that’s what I think I remember… This is one of the reasons why taking a break is important. When you do take a break, you just might like Amnesia: The Dark Descent. It’s a first person adventure game for Windows.

Amnesia is an first person shooter adventure game. The game allows for physics-based puzzles and interactions such as opening doors and fixing machinery. In-game objects are operated by toggle. To open a door, for instance, you hold down a mouse button and then push (or pull) the mouse. This gives you stealth, allowing you to peek out a barely-opened door or to open it slowly and sneak away. This also adds a degree of difficulty to the game as it is now possible to push open a “pull” door while something tries to sneak up behind you.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent

Health is not the only attribute indicator displayed in the game. You also have to manage your sanity. For example, being in dark too long, witnessing unsettling events, or staring at monsters will reduce your sanity, causing hallucinations, which in turn will and draw the attention of more monsters. Light sources help restore your sanity, and if none are available, you can use a tinderbox to ignite candles. You can also light an oil-burning lantern found near the beginning of the game. Unfortunately, tinderboxes and oil are both limited; and standing in a light source also makes the player easier to spot by monsters.

If a monster spots you, you must flee. Amnesia don’t have any weapons. You have to find hiding places or barricade doors with rocks, chairs, etc. Unfortunately, monsters are able to tear down doors and to kick obstacles out of the way. They’re also fast once they’ve spotted you. Players can also choose to hide in the shadows, but again, if you hide in the shadows, you risk loosing sanity points.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent is a cool looking game. The graphics are really well done, and the story line is mostly interesting. The game doesn’t provide you with any weapons, so if you want to survive, you’re going to have to think on your feet.

Is Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings HD still the king of RTS?

Back in 1997 Microsoft Studios published the Ensemble developed Age of Empires, a game that quickly garnered a sequel in 1999 with the release of Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings. There have been numerous sequels and spin-offs since the millennium with games such as Age of Mythology appearing on PC and ports appearing on both home consoles and handhelds. Yet nothing has approached the success of the original Age of Empires II.

ageHDheaderCritical and commercial success

The critical success of Age of Empires II has been quite astonishing. IGN ranked it in its top 10 PC games of all time, while its aggregate metacritic score was 92%. The sales have more than matched this critical success: in 1999 it was the 4th best selling game of the year – an astonishing feat when you consider it was released on September 30.

While sequels in the Age of Empires series have brought delight to fans around the world, Age of Empires II is still the one that is remembered most fondly, so it’s understandable that the announcement of an HD remake was met with considerable anticipation. Could the re-release live up to the original?

As good as it ever was

The good news is the gameplay hasn’t been tinkered with – it’s still the same great game. As well as high definition graphics the game also supports widescreen. Apart from these graphical upgrades the multiplayer experience has been improved thanks to Steam integration. The expansion pack, Age of Empires II; The Conquerors is also included, which adds more civilizations, units and technologies, as well as more gameplay modes.

age01

Development issues

While Ensemble developed the original game, the studio has since become defunct. Thankfully, one of the lead developers from Ensemble, Matt Pritchard, headed the HD remake as a part of Hidden Path Entertainment. Despite the experience of the development team there have been teething issues. As people who pre-ordered the game managed to bag themselves a pre-release version, members of online forums began complaining of problems such as the game not loading properly and it crashing at random points. Thankfully a patch has already been released that has managed to address these problems.

History repeats itself

Considering the game is over a decade old many people may not have had the highest expectations when it came to commercial success – after all, nostalgia doesn’t necessarily translate to sales. However, after holding steady at number 3 on the pre-order charts, the game has managed to top the Steam best seller list, ensuring that a game that is still critically loved has also managed to do well financially.

While this HD remake will bring joy to hardcore fans that believe Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings is the pinnacle of RTS gaming (especially when they find out that all the original cheat codes still work), convincing younger gamers of its appeal might be more tricky. There’s no doubt that it does look as if its aged when placed next to modern games, but luckily its budget price point should mean that plenty of newcomers to the franchise are willing to give the game the chance it deserves.

Ace of Spades – the Minecraft-style online multiplayer FPS

Ace-of-Spades-LogoCreate your own levels and enjoy four different game modes in this cool Windows game.

Gaming can obviously be a lot of fun. One of the biggest draws for some games is the ability to create your own levels. This is one of the reasons why games like Ace of Spades are cool. It’s a game for Windows that just might be for you.

Ace of Spades is a voxel-based build-and-shoot video game, similar in to Minecraft and Team Fortress 2. It features game modes such as team death match, capture the flag, base infiltration, zombie defense, and diamond mining. The best part of it is its sandbox construction elements. It enables players to construct defensive structures or to dig trenches, to achieve the goals of the current game mode.

06

Players can choose between four classes of player characters – the Commando, with either a rocket launcher or a mini-gun and a pistol; the Marksman, with a sniper rifle and a pistol; the Rocketeer, with a submachine gun and a jetpack; or the Miner, with an auto-drill cannon and a shotgun. Shovels and pickaxes can be used as melee weapons or to destroy blocks. Other weapons are available to each player class as well.

Ace of Spades is an ok video game. The plus sides are its multiplayer classes and its ability to allow players to create their own levels and structures. You really have to want to do this, as the game doesn’t offer much more. I’m not a big fan and it has a lot to do with the graphics style used throughout the game. If the graphics were a bit different and if it did a bit more, I might be interested, but then again, I’m not a big Minecraft fan, either.

Bioshock Infinite – an amazing shooter with neat role-playing touches

Bioshock_Infinite_LogoBioshock Infinite is the third installment in the award-winning Bioshock series, and whilst there is no continuing storyline from its previous incarnations, fans of the brand will notice that the stunning visuals and intuitive gameplay remain very much at the heart of the game.

This time round we control Booker DeWitt, a former Government agent who – to pay off an unknown debt – is sent to the floating city of Columbia to rescue a captive called Elizabeth.

Set in 1912, the game features at its core a civil war between the ‘founders’ of Columbia and the ‘Vox Populi’, a rebel gang looking to seize control of the city. Whilst Columbia is gloriously easy on the eye, we quickly learn its inhabitants have an appetite for destruction. The protagonists are drawn into this battle as Elizabeth is highly sought by both of the rival factions, who wish to use her unique psychological powers for their own ends.

original

Bioshock Infinite is, in essence, a first person shooter, but with some neat role-playing touches that will please ardent RPG fans too. Following a well-trodden path, the game combines both linear plot points and the ability to free roam, allowing you to really immerse yourself in the atmosphere and politics of Columbia.

Whilst Booker has a number of destructive melee weapons and firearms at his disposal, he can also utilise vigors that offer a number of additional skills, including telekinesis, the manipulation of electricity and animal control to discombobulate opponents, and these – in grand RPG tradition – can be fully upgraded.

The player can also make the most of Elizabeth’s strengths in battle sequences, although she does remain CPU controlled throughout the game. The character of Elizabeth is built with a really intuitive AI model, which ensures she is of benefit rather than a hindrance – something you often find in ‘buddy’ shooters.

Using her spiritual abilities in combination with Booker’s skill in combat can lead to a number of devastating – and very satisfying – attacks. She’ll even chuck a few power ups your way when she’s not directly involved in the action herself.
The only blot on Bioshock Infinite’s copy book is the gun battle aspect, which feels clunky and a little dated when compared to many other recent point and shoot titles. But this is more than made up for in the sheer number of aforementioned ingenious battleground tactics that can be deployed.

If you’ve never played Bioshock before then you are in for a treat, and seasoned campaigners will be happy with the series’ continued commitment to sublime graphics, dense atmospherics and multi-layered battlegrounds.

Whether you are a tactically-minded player or an ‘all guns blazing’ merchant, the depth of Columbia and the responsiveness of your enemies gives the game a replay value so often lacking in first person shooters, whilst still being fun and easy to ‘pick up and play.’

The intricacies of the relationship between Booker and Elizabeth, as well as the dystopian environment they find themselves in, result in an immersive storyline packed with depth and promise. You really will want to see this one through to the end.

Dell Latitude 10-ST2 Windows 8 Pro Tablet – Review

Billed as a full Windows 8 Pro tablet and Microsoft Surface Pro competitor, is the Dell Latitude 10-ST2 the device for you?

Introduction

Tablet computing is IT right now. Apple has their iPad and iPad mini. Samsung has the Android powered Galaxy Tab and Galaxy Note; and Microsoft has Surface RT and Surface Pro. Dell also has a Windows 8 Pro tablet – The Dell Latitude 10-ST2. How does it measure up to the expected tablet experience? Is it a good alternative to either the 64GB or 128GB Microsoft Surface Pro tablet? Let’s take a look and find out?

Dell Latitude 10-ST2

Device and Hardware

The Dell Latitude 10-ST2 tablet is all black and covered on 5 sides with a slightly rubberized backing. The front is Gorilla Glass. It has a 10.2 inch diagonal screen pushing a 1366×768 resolution that defaults to landscape orientation. Its basic hardware specs can be found in the table below. After all is said and done, the device had a Windows Experience Index value of 3.3, attributed to its gaming and 3D business graphics.

Category Component
Processor 1.8GHz Intel Atom z2760
Memory 2GB, 800MHz DDR2
Hard drive 64GB SSD
Graphics Intel GMA
Dimensions (WD) 10.8×6.9 inches
Height 0.4 inch
Screen size (diagonal) 10.2 inches
System weight / Weight with AC adapter 1.6 pounds / 2.1 pounds
Video Micro-HDMI
Audio Stereo speakers, headphone/microphone combo jack
Data 1 USB 2.0, SD card reader, 1 Micro-USB charging port
Networking 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth

While the Atom processor has a high enough speed at 1.8GHz, it doesn’t have a lot of horse power. In fact, it’s pretty anemic. The system is optimized for a few specific apps – Microsoft Office being one of them – but don’t expect it to power through anything else though. The weak processor performance even seems to affect network traffic, disk I/O and display performance as well, though obviously system interaction between dedicated subcomponents will also factor in.

It was especially noticeable when trying to download content from Microsoft TechNet. I was a bit disappointed with it all.

Garena – Connecting World Gamers

Chat and game with your friends using this gaming platform for Windows.

GAR-01Gaming is one of the biggest reasons behind computer sales. One of the biggest trends in gaming right now is the need to communicate with team mates within your gaming party. That’s one of the reasons why I like Garena. It’s a gaming communications platform for Windows.

Garena is a game platform similar to an instant messenger. Garena allows gamers to develop buddy lists, to chat with friends and to check on game progress and achievements. Gamers are able to form groups or clans, and chat with multiple gamers simultaneously through public or private channels. Garena has also provided a great GTalk platform which is useful for gamers to interact with.

Like other online game services, Garena uses Shells for a virtual currency. Gamers can create their own unique identity by customizing their avatar or changing their names. Users can also use Shells to purchase Gold memberships for instant access to the platform anytime, to create clans, or to buy themselves back in to the platform or to a game or clan.

Garena is a decent PC gaming platform. It allows you to not only play but to communicate with clans and hoards while you play with and against them. It’s a bit on the pricey side, however, as 3000 shells cost $60 USD, and Gold membership will cost you 1900 shells a year.

garena_ss1

Information on what games are available and what they cost, over and above your gold membership fee are unclear, and not readily available on the site. Its difficult to understand what might be available and what it might cost.
