Flip4Mac WMV (Quicktime Plug in for your Mac) This is an essential item for all Macs. WMV (Windows Media Video) is pervasive on the internet, and since that is a PC based format for video, Mac users have previously been subject to using Windows Media Player for Mac. Besides the fact that WMP was pretty bad, Microsoft abandoned support for the Mac version of WMP, a long time ago. Enter Telestream, the makers of Flip4Mac. Someone there saw an opportunity to provide a necessary piece of software to make us Mac users privy to all the WMV content out there in the world. The one down side to the WMV format is that, occasionally, you will run into some content that has been prepared with an unsupported codec, and merely wrapped inside a WMV package. These will appear to be normal WMV video files, but once you try an play them, nadda...nuthin...they don't work. F4M tries it's best, but they simply aren't compatible. F4M support says they do their best to try and keep up with all these odd codecs with updates of the software, but it's pretty much impossible to get them all. Beyond the free version of F4M, there is an entire world of other features available with the various upgrades. Everything from simple importing WMV content, to full blown FInal Cut Pro integration for all your WMV needs.
