| flashget Check your firewall log - Not at first, but after downloading a few files it suddenly DOES start talking to a site in China - 219.238.234.148 ... after every download, and having no reasonable reason to do so. Soft32, you've slipped up by classifying this one as safe and as a pick ? Anyone know what the site with that IP is ? » reply to this review was this review helpful? - report abuse 463 of 891 users found this review helpful | | | | | Displaying: 1-3 from 3 | 1 | | | Reply from: dujiulun2006 Date: 10/12/2007 see all my reviews (0)
| I'm from China, and I'm happy that this software was spoken highly of by soft32. The IP address you talked about.. er.. 219.238.234.148.. is an address of "s2.flashget.com", it's a mirror searching server and it can help you to download a file faster. It first logs on that server and searches if there's a mirror server of the server you're downloading from. If you don't want Flashget to visit that IP, you can set it when creating a new downloading progress. My English isn't good, pardon me. report abuse | | Reply from: Saltwater Date: 10/12/2006 see all my reviews (1)
| This is happening because before the 1.72 version it had the banner (as you can see in the producer's screenshot that is still on the site). After that the banner has been removed and the producer said that the program will be 100% freeware but, there's always a but, you can't be sure that the adware support have been removed 100% from the source code. There are just two minor versions that are freeware based on a adware source and I think the producer didn't rewrite entirely the code and the add support will be entirely removed in v2. If you are still concerned about that IP try an IP lookup service such as easywhois.com and see what's all about. Nothing suspicious from my point of view. | This free version of Flashget is adware, it is not spyware. Its only so-called suspicious activity is replacing banner advertisements that appear in the program with other ads. If you would like to avoid the advertisements altogether, you can register the program for $30 (http://www.amazesoft.com / index . htm ) . report abuse | | | | Related software downloads for FlashGet 1.9.6 |
